Games released on Steam: methodology

How it is calculated

Count of apps whose store type is game and whose release date falls in the period, in UTC. Coming-soon apps, DLC, demos, software, videos and soundtracks are excluded. The year-to-date comparison counts each year up to the same calendar day, from daily counts rather than a share of the annual total.

Window: Calendar year, month or year to date
Unit: games
Definition version: 1, from 19 October 2026

Caveats

Counted from our own catalogue, which started on 19 October 2026. Games removed from Steam before then are missing, so earlier years may read slightly low.
Release dates are Steam's current ones. Developers can change them, and Early Access games count on their Early Access launch date.
Store details are fetched in batches; the coverage line shows how much of the catalogue has been described so far.
