The Necessary Evil

Compare Steam page

The Necessary Evil is a tactical RPG about making difficult decisions and preparing for the unpredictable. Lead "volunteers" into the dark and rotting recesses of the collective unconscious, colonized and industrialized and plundered for profit. Every decision matters, and every choice has a cost.

Counted once we have watched for 90 days (since 21 Oct 2026)

Last 90 days · as of 5 Nov, 03:55 UTC

How this is measured

Distinct builds deployed to a game's public (default) Steam branch, as Steam's client network describes them.

Checked within minutes of each Steam change. Observed since 21 Oct 2026.

We see a game's builds only from the day we started watching it. Before that we know just the build it was on, so counts over a window are shown only for games watched for the whole window.
A build is not necessarily a content update: developers also ship fixes, and some builds change only files players never see.

Update posts

0 posts

Posts announcing an update, tagged or not

Last 365 days

How this is measured

Posts in a game's official Steam news feed that announce an update: tagged as patch notes by the developer, or plainly about a patch or a released update.

An announcement is not a build. Developers can ship updates without a post, or post about several updates at once.
Untagged posts are recognised from their words, so a few updates are missed and a few other posts may be counted. Tagged posts are marked Patch notes on the Updates tab; recognised ones are marked Update.
Older posts are being read back through each game's history, most played games first, so months before October 2026 fill in over the coming days.

Public Builds

No public build seen yet.

From Steam’s client network, last checked 5 Nov, 03:55 UTC. Builds before 21 Oct 2026, when we started watching, aren't listed. Patch notes are the developer’s update post from an hour before to a day after the build. Not every build gets one. How we count

Earlier Updates

No update posts from before 21 Oct 2026 found yet.

Steam keeps no record of past build numbers, so before 21 Oct 2026 a game’s update history comes from its own Steam news: posts tagged as patch notes, and untagged posts that plainly announce a patch or a released update. Older posts are still being read in, most played games first. How we count

Separate Steam apps for test, staging and playtest versions of The Necessary Evil. They have no store page, so they aren’t counted as games or releases. Builds come from Steam’s client network, players from the Steam Web API every few hours. Steam gives no count for an app nobody can launch. How we count
